Amelia Sharkey is originally from the Philadelphia area and is currently based out of Chicago, Illinois. Her work is heavily inspired by the female experience. She observes closely, the ways in which she sees women restricted in everyday life. Much of her newest work depicts women, who are idealized according to western beauty standards, caught in moments that are not so perfect. Along with this, she uses the paint application as a reflection of these subjects. The pigments are typically saturated and applied in a thick and messy manner, mirroring the vibrant and flawed women she paints.
